  • Sliced black olives
  • Shredded lettuce

  • Olive oil
  • Red wine vinegar
  • Dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper

  1. Slice the Italian sub rolls or baguette lengthwise, but not all the way through, creating a pocket for the fillings.
  2. If desired, spread mayonnaise or mustard on the inside of the bread.
  3. Layer the thinly sliced deli meats, such as salami, pepperoni, and ham, inside the bread.
  4. Place slices of provolone cheese on top of the meats.
  5. Add thinly sliced red onions, sliced tomatoes, sliced black olives, shredded lettuce, and banana peppers or pepperoncini.
  6. Drizzle the filling with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Sprinkle with dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
  7. Close the sandwich and press it lightly to compress the fillings.
  8. Optionally, wrap the sandwich tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. When ready to serve, unwrap the sandwich, cut it into individual portions if desired, and enjoy your top-notch Italian sub.

You can customize the Italian sub by adding or omitting any ingredients based on your preference. Serve it with a side of chips, pickles, or a salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
