  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval-shaped patties.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the patties to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer the patties to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  7. While the patties are baking, prepare the garlic mashed potatoes. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  8. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk, butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and mash until the potatoes are smooth and creamy.
  9. To make the mushroom and onion gravy, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  10. Add the sliced mushrooms and onions and cook until they are soft and golden brown.
  11. Add the flour to the pan and stir until well combined.
  12. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly, until the gravy has thickened.
  13. Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
  14. Serve the Salisbury steak with the garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom and onion gravy spooned over the top.
