French Onion Burger

These French Onion Burgers are a flavor-packed twist on a classic burger. The caramelized onions add a rich and sweet note, while the Swiss cheese adds a creamy and melty texture. Enjoy this delicious burger with your favorite side dishes for a satisfying and hearty meal.


For the caramelized onions:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the burger patties:

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For assembling the burgers:

  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes


  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they begin to soften, about 5 minutes.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and sprinkle the sugar over the onions. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 30-40 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  5. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.
  6. Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  7. Assemble the burgers by spreading Dijon mustard (if using) on the bottom buns. Place a lettuce leaf on top, followed by a cooked burger patty with melted cheese.
  8. Top each patty with a generous amount of caramelized onions. Add sliced tomatoes and cover with the top buns.
  9. Serve the French Onion Burgers immediately and enjoy!
